I Have Been Rescued
Colossians 1:13-14 TLV
Our great cloud of witnesses surrounds us and prays for us while we struggle here on earth. In His Word, God tells me that these witnesses pray for me to be strengthened with all the power that comes from Christ’s glorious light. Not for my own gain but so that I may have all kinds of patience and steadfastness.
Jesus Yeshua has also qualified me, He tells me, to share in His inheritance in the Kedoshim in the light. The Kedoshim is a portion of the old testament that is read every year by the Jewish people. It highlights aspects of the heart of God that are dear to Him. The next verse in Colossians explains that He rescued us from the dominion of darkness to bring us into the Kingdom of His beloved Son. Why is this significant? Why are these seemingly random ideas knit together as one thought?
Oversimplified, the Inheritance of the Kedoshim, in the context of these verses, means that I am set apart and made Holy. The Apostle Paul introduces this revolutionary concept to the Colossians in light of the magnitude of their redemption. Before this, gentiles were considered extremely inferior and could never be equal regardless of how hard they worked. This concept eliminates the work aspect. I can’t work to earn my position in Christ because He said so. Because it pleased Him to call me an heir, I was rescued from the cesspool of my mess, redeemed and washed clean. I have been given the ultimate gift of life and restoration. This currency of Heaven is mine to give away freely or hoard for myself. Like manna, this currency rots and decays if stockpiled, but grows exponentially if gifted to others.
Today let me soak in the understanding that I have been rescued and redeemed. God make me aware of the sufferings of others, those whose arms You have given me the ability to raise.
